Iubo

iubo_logo.jpgUse iubo to help in “organizing your life” by implementing a personal search engine. You input the data (Contacts, Bookmarks, Images, Events, Notes, Objects, etc) and then you can search for it later through iubo.

Goes live February 5th, but you can get a sneak peak here courtesy of this TechCrunch UK article.

Likes:

  • The iubo team consists of two university kids still in school, Joe the developer and Lynne the administrator, and is very much a work in progress. I won’t be using this beta anytime soon, but I’ll definitely keep an eye on it.

Flaws:

  • Can’t tag data on the web or desktop? Would be great if you could right click on something and ’send to iubo’.
  • Can’t import anything, no integration to link third party applications (though this could be in the works in the future).
  • No uploads. Needs URLs. *Tried to add a picture and it didn’t work.
  • Word is they’re planning to add ads and the option for a premium account.

Umm…you couldn’t add a picture because you didn’t put in a URL…clearly its not for uploading things but for keeping all your web links and stuff in one place so that you can access them anywhere.

I actually think it has a lot of potential, and people who don’t understand the site in the first place shouldnt really be reviewing it…

you’re right, thanks for pointing that out Jim.

I blame the site for a lack of instructions, but also the fact that it confused me should speak volumes. Sites like this should be for the average internet user, and if I miss the boat on the first try I’m sure others will too.

I’m just offering my thoughts and opinions here, and I think I’m one of the only people trying to do this who are not part of the tech elite – I’m just an everyday user without any authority to do so, and I never claimed to be anything more.

also, I stick by my review. this site is still way to manual and I can think of a lot easier and faster ways to store my weblinks.
